With the concurrence of Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has appointed Air Force General Bruce Carlson (Ret.) the 17th director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Carlson served as commander, Air Force Materiel Command before retiring from active duty this year.

Navy Captain Paul B. Becker has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral (lower half). Becker is currently serving as commanding officer, Joint Intelligence Center, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.


John B. Orem has been assigned as director, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Programs Division, Office of the Deputy Director for Strategic and Space Programs, Office of the Director for Program Analysis and Evaluation, Washington, D.C. Orem previously served as principal adviser to director of Naval intelligence for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance programs, Naval Intelligence Command.


Navy Captain Elizabeth L. Train has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral (lower half). Train is currently serving as commanding officer, Center of Naval Intelligence, Virginia Beach, Va.


Army Reserve Colonel Robert L. Walter Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the grade of brigadier general and assignment to deputy commander (individual mobilization augmentee), U.S. Intelligence and Security Command, Fort Belvoir, Va.


Philip McTigue has joined Pictometry International Corp. as federal project coordinator. In this new position, McTigue will help the company broaden its scope of projects within the federal government.
