Fire Reporting System Supports Geospatial Photography

SDG Systems has announced the availability and support of the FLAIR (Fire Location and Incident Reporting) photography management solution. While FLAIR is initially targeted as a wildfire solution, FLAIR may be customized to support a wide range of geospatial photography applications, including homeland security, defense and other government and commercial applications. SDG will market and sell the FLAIR solution, which includes the FLAIR Mobile and Server software, a Ricoh 500SE camera with the SE-3 GPS and compass module, and a Trimble Nomad 800L or 800LD rugged handheld computer. Technical and warranty support will be provided through SDG for both the software and hardware. FLAIR Mobile software allows a firefighter to categorize, annotate, map and wirelessly send geocoded (GPS) and compass-coded digital photographs to the secure FLAIR server. The FLAIR server software creates secure, intelligent, Web-based data from the uploaded images.

NGA Acquires Electric Infrastructure Data

Ventyx has announced a new contract with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency under which the company will be the exclusive provider of electric infrastructure data for the agency. The contract marks the fourth year in a row that NGA has chosen Ventyx data. In addition to supporting combat operations, NGA also supports disaster relief and homeland defense operations by providing GEOINT data, products and analyses to lead federal agencies as well as state and local first responders. The accuracy of Ventyx’s data and the company’s past performance with NGA were primary reasons for the agency continuing to work with Ventyx. The Ventyx geospatial team spent considerable time and effort in understanding the agency’s needs, and the company has provided considerable domain expertise to NGA over the years. Ventyx offers the Velocity Suite of historic energy markets data, which provides organizations with the integrated market data and tools they need to analyze, benchmark and conduct planning and market analysis. In addition to their popularity with government agencies, these solutions are also compelling offerings for utilities.

Situational Awareness Package Aids Geospatial Decision-Making

Meeting the complex challenges of homeland security, emergency management and public safety organizations, ESRI has released ArcGIS for Situational Awareness. This hardware, software and data bundle provides a complete framework for geospatial intelligence and decision-making. It gives organizations enterprise access to timely and accurate information about their operations and events. Security executives, incident managers, analysts, operators and others can use the bundle to prepare for potential emergencies and respond effectively when they occur. It also provides accurate, real-time monitoring and updates of events on the ground as well as decision support analysis. ArcGIS for Situational Awareness bridges the gap between meeting complex mission requirements and managing budgetary constraints with limited resources. Organizations can fuse complex, disparate datasets, including GeoRSS feeds, live traffic camera feeds, and live weather feeds, with their existing data to ensure complete, high-quality analysis. The bundle supplies a powerful integration platform that links data, workflows, individuals and organizations. Agencies can effectively manage both natural and man-made emergencies as well as collaborate with stakeholders and other response organizations.

Award Funds Geo-Enabling of Government Tabular Data

FortiusOne, a provider of next-generation location intelligence, has received the Federal Geographic Data Committee’s (FGDC) National Spatial Data Infrastructure Cooperative Agreements Program Award to geo-enable the U.S. government’s tabular data. FortiusOne’s GeoCommons Platform will be utilized to create geospatial datasets automatically from tabular government data containing location-based references, such as addresses, ZIP code, county, city and state. The single grant dedicated to geo-enabling tabular data was awarded to FortiusOne to create a shared public Web service that will make the geoenablement of abundant government data simple and intuitive. The resulting service will allow for greater data discovery, exchange, analysis and visualization of geographic data. The project’s scope will include a robust taxonomy of existing boundaries, both global and domestic, to which tabular data can be joined. By extending the existing GeoCommons Platform, FortiusOne is creating an automated capability for geocoding and spatial join functionalities, thus laying the groundwork to extend their tools for more sophisticated analytic tasks. ♦
