Mobile Asset Tracker Offers Improved Reporting, Analysis

GeoDecisions has introduced the latest version of IRRIS, offering improved reporting, analysis, visibility, and querying capabilities. A secure geospatial Web application, IRRIS provides users with the access, knowledge, and visibility to effectively view, analyze, and track mobile assets on a global basis. It incorporates and displays worldwide infrastructure data, live-vehicle tracking, near-realtime weather, and active route conditions in a map format. The enhancements include: real-time DTN/Meteorlogix weather data; liner traffic areas and geographic area maps; road status module that allows users to change the condition of a road; shapefile upload tool for all users; map viewer for tracking feeds; airfield data layers; ability to plan, route, track, and manage missions; operations center wallmap; Department of Defense Activity Address Code mapping; INRIX incident traffic data; traffic speed data using INRIX traffic services; and international routing feature. IRRIS was originally developed for the U.S. Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command to track, manage, and document the movement of surface cargo transported throughout the world. Today, the portal serves a number of federal and state homeland security agencies, as well as the U.S. Transportation Command and the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center.

Program Expands Aerial Imagery of U.S./Mexico Border

Aerials Express has announced continuing investment in current aerial imagery along the U.S./Mexico border. Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua; and Tijuana, Baja, were recently flown in 2009 as pilot projects under the new borderlands program. Products released in 2009 include 1-foot and 6-inch resolution orthophotographic mosaics. Additional datasets available include color-infrared and stereo pair datasets for custom analysis. Aerials Express uses precision digital camera platforms with the highest levels of accuracy and content control. The U.S./Mexico borderland program reinforces Aerials Express as a strategic supplier of off-the-shelf imagery. The product is made available to a broad-range of consumers including civil agencies, NAFTA affiliates, environmental, infrastructure and resource development service firms.

Web Portal Offers Easy Access to Geospatial Imagery and Analysis

In response to a growing demand for immediate, online access to geospatial imagery and analytical tools, Lockheed Martin and Pictometry International Corp. have launched the first version of “Intelligence on Demand,” a new Web portal that offers users a world of imagery and analysis for a flat monthly fee. This initial version offers a library of more than 100 million geospatial images from Pictometry and highpowered analytical tools from Lockheed Martin, all available online. Intelligence on Demand is built on a cloud computing model, where a large number of users connect to data on a shared “cloud” of servers on the Internet. Web-based e-mail and document sharing applications are examples of commercial clouds. The cloud approach significantly improves convenience and affordability for users, who can access their data from any computer anywhere in the world, as long as they have a network connection.

Intelligence on Demand offers users three key advantages over traditional, commercial clouds: enhanced security; unique data sets; and sophisticated analysis tools.

NGA Acquires Data for Geocoding and Display Capabilities

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has awarded NAVTEQ, a provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions, a contract as the map data and content provider for the comprehensive global commodity dataset that offers transportation, public venues and miscellaneous points of interest data layers. NGA provides responsive GEOINT products, support, services and information to Department of Defense components, and for national intelligence purposes. NAVTEQ map data and content will provide NGA with geocoding and map display capabilities for GEOINT products, as well as contribute toward national security objectives. NAVTEQ map data includes geospatial information such as roads, cities, political boundaries, physical features, places, railroads, census boundaries, parks, schools, fire departments, police departments, and hospitals and many other geospatial vector data layers. ♦
