Paul Davis, Chief Technology Officer, NJVC

Paul Davis
Chief Technology Officer
NJVC

In his role as chief technology officer for NJVC, Paul Davis provides technology leadership, program oversight and business- development support to the entire organization. He joined NJVC in this position in 2008, bringing with him more than 20 years of professional experience in management and communications within the information technology industry. Before joining the NJVC team, Davis was a distinguished engineer with CSC in the National Public Sector Federal Consulting Practice. In this role, he was responsible for providing consulting support for the development of CSC’s high-growth market segments, and also supported the development of service-oriented architecture and multi-level secure architectures for customers.

Q: NJVC has become one of the largest IT solutions providers to the Department of Defense in a relatively short time. Can you give us an overview of your company, its history and mission?

A: NJVC was founded in 2000. The company, a limited-liability company based in Vienna, Va., began with fewer than 30 employees and has since evolved into a leader within the government-services industry, today employing more than 900 employees, 90 percent of whom hold security clearances. NJVC is recognized as one of the largest government-services providers supporting the Department of Defense.

NJVC provides a full life cycle of secure, innovative IT solutions for leading intelligence, defense and government agencies with highly secure IT requirements. Our comprehensive range of IT services falls under four solutions categories: technical and managed services, enterprise solutions, thought leadership and printing. The corporate mission of NJVC is to leverage the talent of its employees and capability of its strategic partners to deliver IT solutions that are secure, innovative, and of the highest quality and value for its customers.

Q: What kinds of work does your company do?

A: NJVC performs operation and sustainment and information technology and information services. We have successfully transitioned non-inherently governmental IT work previously performed by civilian government employees to NJVC management. In addition, we provide customers a single entity accountable for all enterprise IT services. We support operational help desk functions by consolidating independent call center activities into a single, integrated Enterprise Service Center.

Q: What expertise does NJVC offer in the field of geospatial and related intelligence?

A: NJVC offers a full range of customizable, comprehensive IT solutions and experienced people committed to our customers’ missions. I just got back from a business trip to U.S. Pacific Command [PACOM] and was humbled by the feedback we received from imagery analysts from across agencies and entities as to the quality of work the staff on IT/IS provides. At the end of the day, NJVC’s best asset is its people, and the good news for the GEOINT community is this: We have them.

Q: How does your company work to protect the security of clients’ systems and information?

A: The answer lies in processes. We know that we have the best folks, and by giving them the right tools to be successful we are confident our customer’s mission is in good hands. From the development of our service offerings through their execution and sustainment, NJVC puts a great deal of energy into defining processes that follow industry norms, including ITIL and ISO frameworks. We also ensure that our people have the appropriate certifications to do the work required. We are putting a lot of energy into DoD 8570 certifications. By being diligent and following our clients’ standards, we protect their systems every day.

Q: What unique benefits does your company offer military and other government customers?

A: NJVC provides an incredible high value of work and cost efficiencies for all its customers. By growing the way we have, our rate structure is as competitive as you will find in this market space. We have as many cleared staff available for new opportunities and surge as most of the Tier 1 companies, with the difference being we are a mid-size company that can be as agile as a government needs to fulfill their mission.

Q: What are some examples of the benefits experienced by military and other government customers?

A: A significant benefit is the reduction in the operations and sustainment costs for managing their IT infrastructure while improving service.

Q: What areas are you working on for the future in meeting military and other government needs?

A: We are developing solutions that address the life cycle impacts of Web 2.0, serviceoriented architecture and cloud computing. In the future, IT budgets are going to be tighter. DoD and government agencies would like to see their operations and maintenance costs reduced by 25 percent while providing better service. NJVC wants to be considered a premier partner in support of that goal. ✯
